More surgical expertise in a community hospital.

  • Welcomed a surgical oncologist and hematologist/oncologist to the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at Windham Hospital

Windham is federally classified as a Medically Underserved Area because it is more difficult to recruit physicians to work here. This designation gives residents:

  • Greater access to cardiovascular procedures, interventional radiology, orthopedics, and urology.
  • Coordinated specialty care through Hartford HealthCare’s Heart & Vascular Institute, Cancer Institute, orthopedic services, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, diabetes care and education, sleep medicine wound care and behavioral health services.

  • Expanded geriatric services, including an older adult behavioral health program, a geriatric specialist, and our Center for Healthy Aging, which provides free resources, assessment and referrals to more than 3,000 seniors and their families each year.

  • Opened state-of-the art infusion center on the Windham Hospital campus at 5 Founders Drive, enhancing local access to oncologists and a cancer nurse navigator.
  • Recruited medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and specialized oncology staff at Windham Hospital.

  • Operates five school-based health centers in partnership with the town of Windham. The program provides students with physical and mental health services including sick visits, physicals, nutrition services, immunizations, reproductive care and counseling services.

  • New SPEC-CT nuclear imaging technology provides true 3-D information allowing for better diagnosis of seizures, stroke, stress fractures, infections, and tumors in the spine.
  • All mammography imaging upgraded to 3-D mammography offering detection of early breast cancer and reduces the need for additional testing.
  • Globus spine surgical robot introduced, enhancing precision and accuracy through a minimally invasive approach and reducing recovery time.
  • Mako total joint robot for knee replacement to assist expert surgeons in precisely removing bone and cartilage.
  • The fully-accredited Center for Sleep Medicine draws on a board-certified staff and state-of-the-art equipment and procedures to diagnose and treat sleep disorders.

  • LIFE STAR, Hartford HealthCare’s critical care helicopter service, responds to and provides air transport from Windham Hospital to other tertiary care centers in the state.

  • Provides more than $1.6 million in community benefits each year, touching more than 10,000 individuals through programs and care focusing on health issues like cardiac and pulmonary rehab, diabetes education, and more.

Donna HandleyWelcome to Windham Hospital, a 130 private bed, not-for-profit acute care community hospital providing state-of-the-art comprehensive medical services, personalized attention and care. Our hospital seeks to meet the total healthcare needs of the people living in eastern Connecticut.
