Dr. John Foley assumes role of regional Cardiovascular Services leader

NORWICH – John Foley, MD, FACC, member of the Backus Hospital Medical Staff and long-time cardiologist, has been named Hartford HealthCare regional director of Cardiovascular Services at Backus and Windham hospitals.

Board certified in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Foley has been serving cardiology patients in Eastern Connecticut for 15 years. Throughout his career, he’s maintained clinical, academic and leadership positions.

From 2012-2013, Dr. Foley served as the president of the Connecticut State Medical Society. He also developed and served as medical director of the Heart Failure and Wellness Program at Backus.

“John’s professional and personal reputation precedes him,” said Peter Shea, MD, Hartford HealthCare regional vice president, Medical Affairs. “He has excelled at his work in patient care, with the Connecticut State Medical Society, in various groups throughout the state, and as a clinical instructor. We are pleased to welcome him to this new role.”

As regional director of Cardiovascular Services, Dr. Foley will perform two roles – he will assume leadership functions as well as provide direct patient care in the hospital and office settings. From an organizational standpoint, Dr. Foley is responsible for advancing cardiology services and developing one standard of care for patients at Backus and Windham hospitals.

“Rather than each hospital operating in separate silos, we’re creating a single, unified system of cardiology care in the Hartford HealthCare East Region,” said Dr. Foley. “Our goal is to bring together collective resources and best practices to better patient care. We have great teams in place to move forward with this opportunity.”

In addition to his administrative role, Dr. Foley is also seeing patients at the new Hartford HealthCare Medical Group for cardiovascular disease in the Backus Medical Office Building at 330 Washington Street in Norwich.
